More and more one sees content about podcasting appearing in the news. News about the industry, the up and coming podcasters making waves and changing lives and other industry experts sharing why audio is going to be the next big thing. This medium is growing by leaps and bounds and the opportunities abound for those that take action now.
For many of the older generation one can liken podcasting to the old radio shows that had one glued to listening. Today podcasting presents the same opportunity as radio did. However the spectrum is much broader and the guy down the road can start a podcast from his bedroom, if he so chooses.
This provides an opening for people that may never have had the means to share their message or brilliance with the world. Podcasting is perfect for the introvert that doesn’t like facing people but has a great message to share.
- Podcasting is a great way to get your message or passion shared with the world.
- It’s perfect for making connections globally and growing an audience from the comfort of your home.
- A podcast is also perfect for that person that is always talking about something they are passionate about. Make that passion work for you and start a podcast.
This is why I included Podcasting as one of the “6 Top Ways To Make Money From What You Know.” There are no preset criteria or conditions to starting a podcast.
You decide the topic, then start talking and sharing what you know.
Podcasting opens doors of opportunity.
Podcasting can open doors of opportunity and ways to monetize, second to none. This can be done in several ways:
- promoting products and services via affiliate marketing,
- selling ad-space to relevant businesses and brands,
- interviewing industry leaders
- reviewing and selling products or services linked to your subject matter
- grow your authority in your niche
- and growing a passionate following that spreads your message even further
As your podcast grows in popularity – this may even expand out into speaking gigs or presenting workshops on the relevant subject matter.
The sky really is the limit in this case and many podcasters have gone on to become 6 and 7 figure earners from hosting a podcast and everything linked to the podcasting business.
Podcasting can be setup with little or no money being spent.
One of the most appealing things for me personally, is the fact that one can get started with little or even no money being spent.
Let’s face it, people start things and then find out later that they actually hate what they are doing. Therefore, it makes no sense to kick off spending huge amounts of money, not knowing if you are in this for the long haul.
Nowadays with smart phones you can start podcasting using just your phone. There are online products like Buzzsprout and Anchor that will allow you to host your podcast for free, or at a minimal cost and you can use your phone to record the episodes. This is especially useful if your podcast is one where you are out and about all the time – like a Travel podcast.
If you have a little money to spend then investing in a recommended good quality microphone and stability stand will go a very long way in getting you going.
My children knew that I planned to start my podcast later this year, so I was very blessed to receive both a great mic and table stand/arm from the children as Christmas presents last year.
One of the best people in my opinion to follow when starting off with your podcast (and later as well) is Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income. His FREE Get started with Podcasting Tutorial is top notch and really goes all out to provide you with everything you need to know in great detail.
If there is only one thing you take away from this post, then it’s this excellent resource to get you started.
So in Closing…
Podcasting is one of the best ways that you can offer relevant, valuable information to many others, especially when they are on the go. All they need is their phone and an app to listen to the episodes, no matter where they are.
It’s easy to set-up and get started. Thereafter, it’s all about practice, practice and more practice to get better with each podcast episode.
Always remember – you have value to share – find the way that suits you best and watch yourself soar.
